Cornflower blue

“ironing is for noobs”  so sayeth my i-used-to-climb-telegraphic-poles towers-for-a-living (okay, okaaay. so towers sound more impressive) mate, stevie stevo.

boxers are the way to go, buddy. match ‘em with a crisp shirt and a funky tie, and you’ve got them interviewers wound round your little finger.

the weather has been disgustingly gloomy the past couple of days. buargh.

time to bring out the warmies.

agnel big maggot! your favourite time of the year is creeping in so when are you coming to visit me hmm?

The Wizard of Oz ain’t Serbian

it’s a cold, nearly-autumn night and beneath blanketed drizzles and yellow lights, i tuck chilled fingers into these pockets of his.

amidst the numbing busyness, endless commutes and household worries, tonite managed to squeeze its way, uninterrupted into our tight schedules.

and i’m glad it did because for a moment there, i thought i had forgotten.

teacher: on your easter cards, write ‘to mummy’.

tyler: *genuinely perplexed* but i only have one mummy…

naturally, it took us a while to pick ourselves up from off the floor.

after watching a few episodes of malaysian dreamgirl, i curled up into a ball and rocked back and forth, astounded that we’ve managed to come up with yet another spectacular embarrassment.

geez.

The week that was

last night, i dreamt i downed half a bottle of vodka, neat.

fun.

post grad ain’t no walk in the park. my course mates and i have been a little more than overwhelmed with the sheer amount of work heaped upon us this semester. can’t we just teach, dammit! lia kept alternating between worried and confused throughout tute and it was a huge relief to know i wasn’t the only one feeling like i’d stuck my head in a pressure cooker.

tramming back with johnny k. after class last friday was possibly the best breather i had all week. we chatted the way back to the city and i unabashedly tweaked his preference towards malaysian girls, promising to look out for suitable candidates for him. hey, i’m all for intercultural, international rapport, yo!

placement at flemington was terrific - the kids were awesome; i had endearing five year olds who looked cute even with snot dripping down their noses; glue paste clinging to my pants; heaps of toothy, smiley grins; amazing picture drawings and a fantastic mentor who showed me the ropes.

talking with fives #1:

sam: *grabs green crayon and scribbles madly on the bottom of a page*

me: sweetie, we don’t scribble. we have to draw a picture, remember?

sam: *very matter of factly* but i’m not scribbling. that’s grass.

me: …. oh. *slinks away*

talking with fives #2:

me: ok, how many butterflies do we need to draw? *holds up four fingers*

ahmed: three!

me: no, count with me, one, two, three ….?

ahmed: five!

me: sigh… ok buddy, let’s do this again.

talking with fives #3:

teacher: name me two friends you play with at school.

jack: mia.

teacher: mia, do you play with jack?

mia: *shakes head*

teacher: do you go to the playground with him?

mia: no.

oooh, ouch!

Misc

to you whom i keep missing over msn: it’s been too long, and too few real conversations in between. the little white doodoll sitting on my desk keeps reminding me to call you soon.

to the kapten: i wish you were a coffeebean-catchup stone’s throw away.

to eric ejoos: happy graduation, mr happy grad :) i’ll be seeing you in a couple of hours to take happy snappy shots in your fine swinburne regalia.

updates!

- soundwave photos are on the way, as soon as i get a hold of the camera men.

- i’ve been placed in a primary school just twenty minutes from home! hurrah! will be taking a prep class, so, hello itsybitsy teenyweeny five year olds.

- making the one hour ride out to bundoora hasn’t been all that bad. i carry two ipods just in case one runs out of juice, but other than that, it’s all good. being the only malaysian in the course allows me to wax lyrical (hah) about our education system, thus giving us more insight into what we DO want in our classrooms.

Just so

black graffiti, a word on fire.

unfurl like prepackaged dispositions.

ear-marked days; all edges only ever fade to grey.

cellophane heart; how many times, do you know?

i saw that chapter waiting to happen, then thought, what then.
