About town

so i survived the year five melaka trip *three cheers*

but seriously, it was a dead good trip. tiring, but dead good. plus, it didn’t hurt that we got first class treatment at the renaissance and yummy starbucks frappes in the afternoons.

walking round melaka, i realised i never actually visited any of the historical sites there, save for one or two places. suffice to say, i let the other teachers do most of the explaining to the kids. me thinks i might need to beef up on my history. five years of high school sejarah melayu obviously did wonders for me.

melina of tempered mental plays a mean bass.  pity kljamasia’s acoustics were a little short of tragic.

kl’s indie scene seems to be pumping up the action.

Fillers

- if i had a sen for everytime agnel called me a little maggot, i’d be swimming in them ringgits.

- ro’s got an uncanny way of stating the obvious in such an oblivious way that it totally cracks me up.

- i’m joining a sprint relay triathlon. i blame alex ironman-iac and his super power motivational speech therapy.

- 3 day melaka trip + 108 hyperactive ten year olds + 16 teachers =  oh help.

- rich comes up to me today and asks if i want to help out with the rock climbing club tomorrow. this school just keeps getting better and better, innit?

- annabel: “ms stephanie, i bit into my apple and i think i swallowed a maggot. but it’s ok, cos my mum says it’s an extra shot of protein… like when i accidently eat a fly.”

me:  O_o

what the.

Where we’ll be

woot!

heaps of hugs to the big guy for surprising me with an ol’ skool, vodafone man utd jersey.

*beams*

it’s good having familiar lumbering pajeros, starbucks chats, strawberry nyonyas, and bouncer friends again. they remind me that constants do exist, which is more than i can say for the rest of the world around me.

Potong steam 101

agnel: wei wei! i have a perfect band for you to listen to. you will LOVE it.LOVE it! i guarantee you! you must go and download!

me: what, what?

agnel: have you heard of *dramatic pause* death.cab.for.cutie.

me: …. eh dude, death cab was like SO last year. been listening to them for ages.

agnel: POTONG STEAM you.

me: *smug and gloating* heard of postal service?

agnel: aah, don’t want to talk to you anymore. you’re no fun. goodbye.

admittedly, i felt a little bad for bursting his bubble so ruthlessly.

the poor thing sounded so excited on the phone.

Bruising international

my colleague was morosely talking about the woes of having a long distance relationship.

i couldn’t have agreed more.

after chatting with her for a bit though, i decided that i was in a far better state and situation. like, not being an expat with a strict two year contract. or having only a two hour time difference which is HEAPS better than a whopping seven. or that melbourne is a lot closer than the uk. or that i can talk to the boy everyday, at most times. or that i’ll see him in just a few months. or that i’ll be returning next year.

come to think of it, i really shouldn’t be complaining.

not all that much anyway, hrr.

*edit

brilliant. just found out that anberlin and copeland are playing in melb on monday. and the boy is going. without ME!!

without ME!!!

:(

anberlin - my all-time favouritefavouritefavourite band.

&%*$&%^#

okay. disregard anything i said about looking on the bright side of things.

there IS NO bright side. there is NO positive outlook. only DARK and EVIL things.

like not being to able to watch anberlin live.

oh poo.

this blows.

Miscellany

so at 12.45a.m yesterday, my good buddy, *josh, calls all the way from an adelaide library (??) just to say hi and to let me know that *ahem* cosmic funk express is playing at groove junction, hartamas on the 22nd and 23rd of june.

spot of advertising for your friend, eh mate? :)

you know you should be back here to go with me.

i had such a young-working-adult conversation with *ro. we talked about super annuation funds (EPF la ok….), tax returns, increments, bonuses, cars, property (landed or otherwise. woo!) the works.  it gave me a whoa! kinda feeling.

geez.

like full on.

thanks, *jv for providing a bit of drama in my otherwise static monday night. beats sitting at home doing phonology and phonetics, aye?
